Good Tuesday to you good people! Happy Canada Day! Hump day for
me! Off Thursday and off course all the world knows what Friday in
the USA means. ;) Parades, more flags, and fireworks!
was referring to this part: off course all the world
knows , do you know when our national day is (no cheating!).
or those of germany, france, england? sigh.
Nope a lot longer! You British abandoned Boston on March 17,
1776 and the war continued until the Continental Army and the
French Navy trapped General Cornwallis at Yorktown in Virginia and
he surrendered his force on October 19, 1781. The Treaty of Paris
was not signed until September 3, 1782 with the last British troops
leaving New York City in November of that year.
naa Carl, the north-east is still firmly in british hands.....
btw i thought it very funny while traveling around up there (and in
canada as well) that you could tell who had been there first, brits
or french, just by having breakfast ;)
England doesn't celebrate our national day (St George's day) as
it's considered insulting to the different races and cultures in
England now. And no I don't mean the Scots, welsh or Irish LOL
(the italians and the dutch came later) but let us not talk
about NYC, that is one of a kind. no, i meant following the coast
up from boston onwards: muffin country. :( and then in canada, the
croissants!!!! :)
Well I wouldn't know about that as I've never visited the USA or
Canada unless you count flying 50,000 feet over them and touching
down in LA, into a transit lounge then off again, the same with
Hawaii ;)
The state of Maine, where I am, was mostly French east of the
Kennebec River with the British mostly west of the river until the
1760's when the French finally gave up the new world. Many french
people stayed though and a strong French ancestry still exists in
Quebec Province. And several neighborhoods still spoke French in
Maine 30 years ago but are mostly gone now.
<3 Boston. :) it feelt very familiar, not so huge as other
cities and with the old buildings also kinda european....... but
the peeps have been nice and helpful where ever i have been so far.
there, i said it. :)
I am a true American. I have little memory of history and
GEOGRAPHY is the worst, though I do like the idea of it I just have
a difficult time placing things on the map.

I think it was to celebrate a tea party in Boston that went wrong Denise :P

LOL Carl. Possibly you are right!
The Boston Tea Party was in December of 1773. Don't over tax our tea, man! We don't like that!
:)

So it took from December until July 4th to get rid of us British ;)

I am of course being a pompous American. :) But I think Switzerland celebrates in early August but I admit I don't know why that date is celebrated.

@yoggel I thought New York is Irish/Italian ;) but originally a Dutch colony.
Canada I don't know much about other than it's cold and Seskatchawan is a German colony.
